Richard Bernabe: Earth and Light Travelogue:
Traveling the World as a Wildlife and Nature Photographer
Alaska. The Amazon. The Galapagos. Morocco. Tanzania. These are among more than 50 destinations where you might find wildlife and nature photographer Richard Bernabe as he strives to capture the moods and character of the world’s most amazing places. He’s currently in Antarctica and his plans for 2018 include Barbados, Botswana, Greenland, Iceland, Namibia, Patagonia, and Uganda.
His work has been published by The National Geographic Society, Audubon, The Sierra Club, National Parks, Outdoor Photographer, Popular Photography and others. Corporate clients include Canon, Patagonia, Orvis, REI, Apple, Microsoft, American Express, and more. And, you might have seen his work on CNN or BBC or in many books that he has authored including The Great Smoky Mountains: Behind the Lens.
Collectively, these and many other places and spaces mark Richard Bernabe’s 30-year journey from Greenville SC with camera in hand. You can join him on some of these ventures. But, hurry! He is often booked two years ahead with 10-12 countries per year.
Or, you can simply mark your calendar for Sunday, January 14, 2018, 6-8 pm. That’s when Richard is scheduled as the featured speaker at the monthly meeting of Carolinas’ Nature Photographers Association-Asheville Region in partnership with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in the Manheimer Room on the main level at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. Visitors are welcome. No charge.
Richard graduated from UNC with a degree in economics. He managed company assets and people for The Hertz Corporation for several years before he was consumed by his passion for wildlife and nature photography.
He started with a Pentax K1000 film camera and is self-taught. Now, he shoots digitally and relies on Lightroom and Photoshop for post-processing. Years ago, he taught photography in Asheville at A-B Tech and at UNC. Since then, he has lectured and taught photography at schools and institutions worldwide and has led photography tours to destinations near and far. He has become a global influencer in the fields of photography, travel, and wildlife conservation with more than a million followers on social media. And, in 2005, he received the National Conservation Award from Trout Unlimited. His current focus is on Earth’s endangered species and African wildlife conservation.
